About the Course:
Operations Management summarizes how CEOs or general managers view future challenges and opportunities of the business world, and how to effectively use their knowledge in operations management to gain competitive advantages. This course introduces operations, analytic tools and language for you to understand, diagnose and manage manufacturing and service operations. The course will specifically focus on general operations management issues. The course will use case studies to examine key competitive issues that including total quality management, process analysis and process design, project management, inventory systems, just-in-time management, constraint management, enterprise resource planning, and supply chain management. Having a strong appreciation for the contribution of operations to a company's market success is an essential element to good managerial decision-making.
Instructor: Dr. Ping Wang, James Madison University
Dr. Ping Wang is an Associate Professor in the department of Computer Information Systems and Management Science. He holds a Ph.D. in Management Sciences and Operations Management from the University of Georgia. He received his M.B.A. degree from Appalachian State University and his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Northeastern University in China. Dr. Wang's primary research interests are in the areas of Models and Applications of Artificial Neural Networks, Sales Forecasting, Time Series Forecasting, Mailing Selections and Classifications. He has presented his work at both national and regional meetings and his research has been published in Journal of Time Series Analysis, Journal of Direct Marketing and so forth.
